RESUMO

This article provides an executive summary of the American Psychological Association (APA)-approved 2017 revision of the Guidelines for Education and Training at the Doctoral and Postdoctoral Levels in Consulting Psychology/Organizational Consulting Psychology. The guidelines were developed by the Society of Consulting Psychology (SCP), Division 13 of the American Psychological Association, to provide updated guidance and recommendations for education and training of doctoral-level consulting psychologists. This article provides an overview of the complete guidelines, reviews the process by which the guidelines were generated, and identifies some of the important contextual factors involved in this work, including overarching principles; the concept of individual, group, and organizational levels; and specific consulting psychology competencies. RESUMO

The Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology (SIOP, Division 14 of the American Psychological Association [APA]) maintains Guidelines for Education and Training to provide guidance for the training of industrial-organizational (I-O) psychologists. The 2016/2017 revision combines separate documents for master's- and doctoral-level training into one document, because the competencies required for each degree are not very different. Instead, the degrees differ in breadth and depth. The updated Guidelines were approved as APA policy in August 2017. In this article, we briefly review the revision process and highlight the updates made in the latest version of the Guidelines. (PsycINFO Database Record

RESUMO

A Physical Demands Description (PDD) is a resource that describes the physical demands of a job in a systematic way. PDD data are commonly used to make legal, medical, and monetary decisions related to work. Despite the fundamental importance of a PDD, data are often gathered by novice or early career ergonomists, where we have limited knowledge regarding their proficiency in performing PDDs. The purpose of this pilot study was to evaluate novices' proficiency in identifying and quantifying physical demands elements embedded within three job simulations, following a formal PDD education session. The education session was based on the revised Occupational Health Clinics for Ontario Workers (OHCOW, 2014) PDD Handbook. Participants were able to identify physical demands elements with an average success rate of 80%, but were often unable to accurately quantify measures related to each element within a prescribed error threshold of 10%. These data suggest that practitioners should exercise caution when sending novice ergonomists out on their own to complete PDDs.

The objective of the study is to establish the relationship and incidence of burnout syndrome and emotional climate in prison professionals, while determining the influence that the emotional climate and burnout factors have on each of the burnout variables according to two ways of understanding the prison. The sample is composed of 222 professionals from different Spanish prisons that are carrying out their activities under two different prison models: Therapeutic and Educational Unit (UTE) and traditional module (No UTE). Results show significant differences between the two models whith regard to both the emotional climate - a higher prevalence of positive emotional climate in UTE- and the characteristics of each of the burnout factors assessed in the model, as well as the role played in the emergence of the latter. This highlights the importance of their role in facilitating the social reintegration of prisoners

The establishment of the JAE and the scholarship policy supported by this institution promoted not only the well-known scientific renovation, but other values related in this case to the technocratic views of social problems. The present study is aimed at exploring this second effect, a relatively unattended topic, by the examination of the concerns and purposes of various scholarship holders who traveled between 1909 and 1932 to Germany, England, Belgium, Switzerland, and France (AU)

RESUMO

This study analyzes the effect on levels of patient anxiety and depression of a partner joining a cardiac rehabilitation program support group, also taking into account the sex of the patient. The study was undertaken using a two-group comparison design with pre-and post-test measures in non-equivalent groups. The sample comprised patients in the cardiac rehabilitation program (CRP) at the Ramón y Cajal Hospital, Madrid (Spain). Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) showed direct effects of sex and partner participation in support groups on the anxiety trait. Similarly, interaction effects were observed between the sex variable and partner participation. These results indicate the pertinence of designing separate groups for patients and partners (AU)

Objective: To achieve, through a training and preventive intervention, a significant change in the emotional experience of a group of health care professionals at risk of exposure to workplace violence. Method: 143 Catalonian health professionals participated in a training course on occupational risk prevention that incorporated theatrical staging techniques and psychotherapeutic strategies, focused on the interpretation of emotional experiences associated with violence in the workplace. They participated voluntarily in the program and were selected according to type of healthcare delivered and professional diversity. A pre- and post-course questionnaire was administered. Results: Ninety-two percent of respondents claimed to have witnessed, and 85% had personally experienced, a violent episode in the previous five years. The comparison of mean scores before and after the training intervention revealed an increase in the positive assessment of the effectiveness of one’s own performance and communication skills (p<0.001), and induced emotional experiences in line with a greater peace of mind (p<0.005) and less anxiety (p<0.005) with respect to the violent incident. Conclusions: Staging experiential stressful situations can be a useful learning tool for managing emotions, which increases the perceived degree of one’s ability to manage communication, teamwork and professional stress itself(AU)

RESUMO

The growing need in Algeria to develop ergonomics knowledge and practice in industry was behind the initiative to develop a training and research project within the ergonomics laboratory at Oran University. Since 2005 the laboratory team is running an academic option master in work design and ergonomics. The evaluation of the academic master in 2010 revealed the acute need of the local industry for professional competences in ergonomic and work psychology. A professional training master program in "ergonomics & work psychology" was then developed in partnership with local industry, five European Universities and six Universities from three Maghreb countries. Research projects were initiated around the two training programs, in conjunction with a number of ergonomics dissemination and promotion activities. Preliminary results of the project are presented and discussed in relation to the local context, and in the light of similar cases in Industrially Developing Countries.

RESUMO

During the first third of the twentieth century, and especially after the 1920s, a discourse on occupational hygiene and safety began to develop in Spain. This discourse, without rejecting the value of the work carried out in the factory environment, particularly stressed the need to take into account what was called the "human factor." Promoted mainly by the budding occupational doctors and psychologists, this discourse became part of both the lines of biological thinking of constitutional pathology as well as the economic ideas of the so-called OCT, and it expounded the need to take the somatic and psychic characteristics of people into account in order to carry out "rational" distribution of the same in the workplace. The article aims to highlight the way in which this discourse contained elements that would help to attribute specific roles within the workplace based on the biological and psychological characteristics of men and women, so facilitating the legitimisation of a sexual distribution of work which helped to reinforce the social organization of gender at that time.

RESUMO

Academic programs that attract and train health systems management professionals need the help of the profession working through our technical societies. We need to seek ways to interest IE and other faculty in these programs. Interactions between health care institutions and academic programs can be an important way for students to discover the wealth of opportunities that exist in health systems management.

RESUMO

The development of a comprehensive supervisory training program for V.A. Medical Center personnel is described. The program draws upon the literature of both organizational psychology and cognitive-behavior therapy and has four basic components: (a) needs assessment and evaluation, (b) awareness-building and cognitive restructuring, (c) skill training, and (d) application on the job. The training program consists of 16 modules developed on the basis of a preliminary needs assessment and literature review. An initial investigation of the model's efficacy indicated significant improvements in the supervisors' knowledge of sound supervisory practices as well as high levels of satisfaction and self-reported productivity in a sample of supervisors who underwent training. Plans for outcome research and the continuing need for an integration of subdisciplines are discussed.
